Omega & Fish Oils

Omega-3 supplements are compared on one number that most front labels do not show: the combined EPA and DHA per capsule. A softgel described as 1,000 mg of fish oil might carry 300 mg of EPA and DHA, or considerably more. Total oil weight is the wrong figure to shop on.

Source is the second variable. Fish oil is the standard, krill oil delivers its omega-3 in phospholipid form at typically lower doses per capsule, and algal products under omega-3 are the option for anyone avoiding marine animal sources. Concentration matters too — triglyceride and ethyl ester forms are both common and are usually named on the back panel.
