Beauty supplements are a marketing category rather than a nutrient one, which is exactly why they are hard to compare. The same shelf holds single ingredients such as biotin, protein-based products such as collagen, and multi-ingredient hair formulas that combine a dozen things at doses the front label never shows.
The useful habit is to read past the name to the supplement facts panel. Collagen is dosed in grams and sold by type — I, II and III come from different sources. Biotin is dosed in micrograms and the range across brands is enormous. Blended formulas need the panel read line by line, because a long ingredient list often means small amounts of each.
